Introduction

Yin Tsz Ngam is the wreck of a cement freighter that went down in the 1960s — one of the few wreck dives Hong Kong has. The hull has broken into two sections, and the cargo of cement bags, soaked, set hard and weathered over decades, still lies in neat rows on the seabed. The wreck has become a thriving artificial reef. More than 100 species of reef fish have been recorded here, among them lionfish, grouper, longhorn cowfish and large schools of scad, with the occasional remora. There are scattered coral colonies, soft corals and sea fans, and for anyone shooting macro there are nudibranchs, feather stars, flatworms and decorator crabs.

Highlights

Over 100 recorded reef-fish species; lionfish, grouper, longhorn cowfish, large schools of scad and occasional remoras; scattered coral colonies, soft corals and sea fans; macro life includes nudibranchs, feather stars, flatworms and decorator crabs.
